Why Storey County Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Storey County is a small but growing community of 4,100 residents, and its steady 2.30% annual growth translates into rising demand for home improvement, landscaping, and infill construction projects. As more homeowners update yards and properties, expect a need for a range of bulk materials—base rock and sand for foundations and driveways, topsoil and compost for planting beds, and durable stone and gravel for paths and erosion control. The local climate—hardiness zone 8b with 228/year sunny days and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall—means materials must perform year-round: they should shed water when storms come, resist UV fading and breakdown from frequent sun, and compact or drain predictably for stable surfaces. For Storey County homeowners, sourcing consistent, locally appropriate aggregates and soils reduces rework, cuts maintenance, and supports drought-wise landscape designs that suit both sunny conditions and episodic rainfall.Popular Projects in Storey County This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Storey County Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Storey County.
Bulk materials are used for driveways, erosion and drainage control, landscape beds, patios and walkways, building pads, and backfill around foundations. They work for both small DIY projects and larger contractor jobs. Tell us your project size and goal to get material recommendations and quantity estimates.
Choose materials that promote drainage and resist movement on slopes; well-graded, angular aggregates typically lock together better than round material. For erosion control, look for larger, heavier pieces combined with smaller fines to reduce washout. If you are unsure, use our material quiz or contact the team to match material performance to your slope and traffic needs.
Storey County has low precipitation and wide temperature swings, so choose materials that drain well and resist dust and erosion under dry conditions. Local volcanic and rocky soils may already be angular and stable, which can reduce how much imported material you need. Expect regional color and texture differences since materials are locally sourced.
Small projects like a garden path or planter bed often need 1 to 5 tons, while a typical single-car driveway top layer can be 5 to 15 tons; a full driveway rebuild or large grading project can run 20 to 60+ tons depending on dimensions. Quantities depend on desired depth, compaction, and existing site conditions, so use our material calculator or send project dimensions for a tailored estimate. Remember our minimum order is 3 tons.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, with a next-day option available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Materials are delivered by local dump truck fleets, usually tri-axle trucks, and orders meet a minimum of 3 tons. We provide upfront pricing and let you choose a delivery date during checkout.
Remote or historic locations may have narrow streets, steep approaches, or restricted access that require special routing or smaller trucks. Provide site photos and precise delivery instructions when ordering so dispatch can match a suitable truck and plan staging. Additional labor, time, or access fees may apply depending on conditions and any local restrictions.
Spring and fall are generally best for delivery and installation because milder temperatures make handling and compaction easier. Extreme summer heat can increase dust and make some materials harder to work with; occasional winter freezes can affect compaction. Because precipitation is typically low, rainy-day restrictions are less frequent than in wetter regions, but always check weather before scheduling.
Some activities—like altering a driveway, working in a public right-of-way, or significant grading—may require county permits or approval. Permit rules vary by project type and exact location, so contact Storey County building or public works before starting work. If you are unsure, our team can point you to common resources and recommend when to check with the county.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request this service at checkout. The driver will assess safety and access on arrival, and there are no guarantees the service can be performed. For reliable spreading, consider hiring a local landscaper or contractor and request that in Order Notes.
Clear the planned drop area of vehicles, low-hanging branches, and obstacles, and mark the exact drop spot with stakes or cones. Ensure there is enough turning room for a tri-axle dump truck and identify alternate parking or staging if access is tight. If gates are locked or access is limited, include instructions in the order notes and contact the team ahead of time.
No—because materials are sourced regionally, texture and color can vary with local geology and weathering. Photos are representative; if color or texture is important, note preferences in your order or request a small sample before placing a large order. We recommend ordering a bit extra for color matching across larger areas.
